and so instead of a guest room we might need a baby room and instead of going to Italy in the fall to see our friends get married, we decided to "stick around" the US and have a baby instead =)

I know, I know this one is overdue, but there's more!!!!

After all of the long miles, steep hills, and cold nights of our last adventure, Krista and I both had a goal...another goal, that we were going to surmount at the end of the AIDS life cycle. It was time to buy a house. So... we had been looking for around a year, just kind of browsing the internet listings and visiting open houses. Learning a lot about what we wanted out of a home...and of course, what we could afford.

Our IDEAL home: 3 bedrooms - one to sleep in, one to work in, and one for guests (one of the bedrooms needed to have a BIG closet for "our" expansive wardrobe. 2 bathrooms - one for us and 1 for everyone else. STORAGE. Someway, somehow, we NEEDED storage. Let it be known that for the past 2 years, we have had a storage place in Oakland AND a storage space in Santa Barbara, all the while we have lived in 5 different places. It was time to do away with storage rentals and consolidate to one location. It wasn't a must, but we would like to have a yard and some outdoor space where we could dwell, chill, BBQ. And finally, the "perfect" home would have a "granny" unit so we could rent it and at some point a "Granny" might have the option of residing.

After we returned from our ride we thought we should finally hook up with a real estate agent and see what it was all about...

We found a great agent from one of the open houses we visited and we set up a date to see some houses that we had been watching and also a few that she thought would be a good match for us. On that fateful day, our first day "officially" house-hunting, we saw our dream home...

A bicycle ride

Its been a month since AIDS Lifecycle 7 and we thought its about time to take you along on our voyage! It was an amazing journey for the two of us. Full of joy, heartache, and of course good old fashioned PAIN. There were long days, filled with strenuous hours, and they were capped off with cold nights surrounded by hundreds of other cyclists. Come along on our epic voyage!

It began at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. Over 3,000 people showed up for the kick off ceremony

We headed out, and began the 545 mile journey to LA!
And saw some beautiful scenery

We made it to Camp1! Whew what a sigh of relief. And good friends were waiting for us.

We told you there were lots of tents around us

One of the best things about the ride, was all the support received. Here was a coffee shop in Santa Cruz that had free coffee, free smoothies, and free music!

On day 3, there was a terrible hill suitably named: THE QUADBUSTER. Here is Krista at the summit!

The other great thing about the experience, was the entertainment! The Gay and Lesbian community always keep it interesting!

These are the trucks that carried our gear. At the end of each day, we would go get our gear, and set up our tent for the night. The next morning, before the sun rose, we would break camp, pack up our gear, and bring it all back to the same truck

So many roads to travel, never enough time or sunshine to do it all... We keep on training though and Jason & I are in our final days of fundraising. He has 500 smakeroos to go, I 750....the going has been rough but soo worth it. The pants are fitting a little looser, the legs and arms are feeling a little stronger and we feel proud... Proud of what we have accomplished thus far and proud of what's to come! So if you're still thinking about it, but have been a bit too busy to yet click on the right-remember: We'd DO IT FOR YOU!!

First Time in Event History That Cyclist Registration Closes Early

We're so excited to be a part of this event!

Los Angeles & San Francisco, March 27, 2008 -- For the first time in the event's history, AIDS/LifeCycle has closed registration for cyclists early after an unprecedented number of riders registered for the event. A record 2,500 people--representing 42 states and 10 countries--are expected to leave San Francisco on June 1. Cyclists will pedal for seven days to Los Angeles, all to raise HIV/AIDS awareness and more than $11 million for the HIV/AIDS-related services of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

Registration is still open for volunteer "roadies," the volunteers who are the lifeblood of the event and serve food, transport gear, staff rest stops, direct cyclists and perform other critical jobs during the week-long ride. To volunteer as one of the 500+ roadies, visit: www.aidslifecycle.org.

Online registration for AIDS/LifeCycle 8 will open in mid-September. AIDS/LifeCycle is jointly produced by the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. More information about the event is available at www.aidslifecycle.org.

So as I mentioned we've been doing quite a bit of the away thing lately. SOOO you ask...where have we been? and what the heck have we been doing? Well as usual it involves family, friends, oh and food =)

A camping trip overlooking the beaches in Malibu brought us back to nature and doing the thing we love the most...roasting marshmallows of course

A trip to Seattle brought us many good things-Jason's 1st trip to this great city, CE which we always need and afabulous reunion with good friends we miss!

2 weeks later we were on the go again this time to celebrate a momentous birthday-our brother in laws 40th! (Happy Bday Fred!) and to see some of Parker's new moves out on the field, oh and lest we forget Trent had a few new moves of his own...

So, then came Easter with all of it's egg decoration, sugar and glory. For the grand finale Parker put on quite the magic show!

Uncle Jeff, Jackie & Isa are back visiting from WI-what fun!! We went to the beach, played with cousin Trent (and ALL of his toys) then off to the Discovery Museum of Science where even 15month olds find things to discover!

and last but not least my good friend Julie had her bachelorette party in a unusually warm San Francisco this past weekend. We had a splendid time! While I don't have any pictures here, the very next day our very good friends The Aleknas hosted a housewarming brunch (congratulations you two!) and again we found ourselves surrounded by good friends, laughter, love and you guessed it-good food!

We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season in store! We have big plans! BIG, BIG plans!! Well, mostly they include traveling to see our friends and family and eating lots of good food and maybe catching a football game or two, but the thing we are MOST excited about is 2008! and everything the year has in store! Our life and a bit of our outlook changed recently on our return from Greece. What, why, how you say...??? Well lets start in the beginning and we'll end in well 2008...

1. We are celebrating a wonderful event this year-Krista's mom's birthday (it's a good one) as she has made every single one of Karen and Kristas' birthdays as special as they could possibly be, they figured it was their chance to turn the table and so it has turned it to a year long celebration!!!! Happy Birthday Year Mom!
2. Krista started teaching at her job in the VA, this is something she's been wanting for months, make that a year now, so this was a happy start to what she hopes will develop into a very rewarding job
3. Thanksgiving, gobble, gobble! we had a great celebration with the Thomas Family and Krista's mom, we even got to see Jason's parents and brother Phil for a quick visit-made it even more special!
4. Krista, Karen & the birthday girl got to celebrate with style, in the city that never sleeps-Las Vegas! The highlight was seeing Celine Dion in the 1st of her last 10 performances in LV!! Would love to tell you more-but you know the deal!
5. Jason got a new JOB!!! With a fabulous new practice in San Luis Obispo! We were so pleased when we got to meet the whole office staff at their holiday party last week-great group! And Jason's 1st day went SPLENDIDLY!
6. Christmas-we're going to the Bay Area to see the fam. and hopefully catch up with some old friends; It is always wonderful to see Jason's family and we miss the Bay Area like no other and so-nuff said!
7. Right after Christmas more family fun-this is the really exciting part-AND we get to meet our new COUSIN ISA!! We're so excited to see Krista's Uncle Jeff & Aunt Jackie-but especially excited to see their new baby girl!!
8. Happy New Year!!!
9. SO many events in 2008 we couldn't possibly list them all but here are some of the highlights:
-Camping scheduled for President's Day Weekend-took a little coordinating, but should be big fun!
-Jason's parents' 40th anniversary!! Great celebration, great family trip!
-Trip up north (way overdue) to Krista's Dad's place and the county Jason & Krista got ENGAGED!!
-Andrew Mick and Julie Flettner WED!! We hope we can make this one, but our dance card is filling up quick and it's ALL THE WAY in MAUI, but it is in MAUI sooo...
-Jordan/Martin/Thomas/Chang Family Vacation (also long overdue) planned for Hawaii
-Last but NOT least AIDS RIDE 2008 June 1-8!!!; This is where Jason & Krista ask you to kindly check out the homepages on the right (simply click away) and seriously think about your love for us, support for medical research, tax write offs, and general good will. In the end we think you will support us, we really think you will...

Greece Lightning!

Can't believe two months ago we were in Greece bathing in the sun and wandering amongst ancient ruins.

Krista's first adventure to Greece, and Jason's second, was nothing short of spectacular. It began on October 7th, in Athens, after magically loosing a whole day to the travel Gods. Krista displayed some serious trust in Jason's judgement; giving him free reign for making all the necessary travel arrangements.

The first stop was the Athens' flea market. A maze of small, twisty "streets" chalked full of people shoulder to shoulder. Krista had a grand time perusing all the wares of the merchants both new and old. Jason was more stressed, keeping one eye on his wife and the other on their valuables. The flea market is a notorious haven for pick pockets and petty theft, but a must see if you are in Athens on a Sunday.

The next several days consisted of visiting the Acropolis, wandering Plaka and the Agora's, sampling Athens' cuisine, and a whole, whole lot of walking! Wow those feet were sore. Jason took time out of everyday to stretch!

From Athens, we hopped over to our first island: Naxos!

Naxos is a moderate sized island with about 20K residents. Its population is centered at the main city, Hora, where we stayed. Naxos was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. Jason wanted a little more spontaneity to the vacation so no hotel reservations were made on any of the islands. We simply hopped on a boat and hoped we'd find something splendid when we landed! And something splendid we found. Our room was run by a local family and was situated on the roof of their building. What views and what privacy! See below.

Hora has an amazing, old Castro and some very interesting crafts. In fact, Naxos is home to a world renowned pottery artist! So, we rented a motor scooter!

And took a ride in the Naxian hills to the little town of Halki, where we saw the artist's work first hand and also toured the only Kitron distillery in Greece. What's Kitron you ask? Its a liquor made from the skin of the Kitron fruit!

From Naxos, Jason demanded their next visit be to Santorini. Santorini used to be named Thira, which means "The Round Island", but three thousand years ago the largest volcanic eruption in history blew the island's middle out! What's left is one of the most amazing sights we have ever seen. Picture a volcano in the middle of the ocean with only the lip of the volcano visible above water. Creating a circular island with sheer cliffs, and an ocean filled caldera in the middle. In the center of the caldera is an island of volcanic rock that looks brown and black from the cliffs of the island.

The main towns are perched upon these cliffs. From a distance, they look almost like snow dusting the peaks of mountain tops. The walk between the Santorini towns is one to remember.

Our last island stop was to the largest and southern most island, Crete. We first hit up the ruins of Knossos.

Home to the ancient civilization of the Minoans. The Minoans were very advanced, having a city "plumbing" and irrigation system. Instead of the traditional stone columns in most ancient Greek architecture, the Minoans used wooden columns. Much to their demise. When a powerful earthquake caused olive oil used to light lamps to catch fire, Knossos burned and with it ended the second oldest recorded civilization.

Our next stop was Rethymno and we stayed at a gem of a place. Olga's Pension. Complete with cute little room, beautiful roof garden, and resident stray cat. Rethymno is known for its Venetian castle, and windy, maze of walk ways lined with craft shops everywhere.

The final stop on Crete was Chania. Like Rethymno, Chania is known for its picturesque old quarter and harbor.

Simply beautiful to take it all in. Clear, blue waters and cobble stoned walk ways.

The trip was fabulous in so many different ways. We can't wait to embark on our next adventure. So, as they say in Greece, "Andio!"

After some heavy duty research Jason found out that the first anniversary year is PAPER and so he proceeded to make 30 paper flowers from a pattern he found online with paper he purchased at Michaels, photos to follow...

For those of you who know how Jason 1st won over Krista's heart (by baking chocolate chip cookies, then a GINORMOUS follow up by knitting her a scarf in her favorite color) then this should sound like no huge feat, but Krista was once again so VERY smitten with her chosen mate and was all smiles from ear to ear.

We chose to spend our first anniversary back where it all began: in San Clemente. There were many reasons why we chose this place of all places, but probably one of the top in both our hearts, was that we felt we didn't get to spend quite enough time enjoying it the first time around-and so we did go back & enjoy it some MORE! While we had hoped to share pics as always with all our loyal readers =) unfortunately BLOGGER is having some technical difficulties and so we'll have to wait until our return from GREECE with even more pics to share!

So it's been weeks, no months since our last entry and boy has there been alot of going-ons....As those of you that read the blog noted JASON FINISHED HIS RESIDENCY and YES we are now living under the same roof! And so the busy lives began...In the past 5mos we have moved, started 2 new jobs, taught a 1 year old to swim, hosted a 6 year old (our very 1st guest as a married couple) and attempted to entertain him for a total of 5 days, attended 3 birthday parties, 4 weddings, congratulated 3 new babies into this world and went to a bachelorette party to boot (had too with all those weddings!) As always we are people of little words (on the computer) and many pictures and soooo...

Whew! What a summer! Oh, by the way, did we mention we're going to GREECE next month!?!

Happy Spring Everyone! While the season had a sad start for our family, losing a very important person- Thelma Brazil whom we will miss dearly, it brought Krista south from SB to visit with her hubby a bit more and see her handsome nephews-which put a smile on everyones face!

So we made it through the holidays and still hardly a drop of rain...hmm, so odd the difference- it's like night and day- the weather from last winter in San Francisco to this one in Southern California...

Well one thing we really can't complain about was the beautiful weather that we got when we visited our friends up north for the first time since THE BIG MOVE. We were generously put up by our friends Dan & Laura & we got to see a handful of our close friends at one of our old haunts & favorite eateries LITTLE STAR (of course) We did however miss a few friends and hope that we can return soon!

Did I mention we did a little American Idol Karoake while staying with The Adams? I'm not sure we demonstrated a very thankful tone =)

When it Rains...

Funny, it really hasn't even rained yet this season, I mean unless you count that little drizzle a few weeks back as something. I think it was just Mother Nature's way of teasing us into thinking that Fall had arrived-well even though the calendar says it has, I believe it still hasn't shown up on California's doorstep-slight correction Southern California. While last year all I wanted was for the rain to stop (it rained 45 days straight in san francisco you know) this year I just want it to begin. It may go along a bit better with the mood, the going-ons in our life and the season... Whenever Jason & I get down and out about living apart for the time, we look at our pictures and we sigh with content and a smile grows over our face again as we think of our special day. So, you may have wondered, where did all the lovely blogging go? and why oh why did they fall short just 2 weeks of their wedding with not a single update?

WELL, we have a good explanation for all of it, but without going into too much detail which apparently I tend to do sometimes =) I will simply say, "our camera broke" and with that simple truth my friend, there is no blog. As we believe (personally, mind you) that our blog can only be described with the pictorial story to go along...

As we have since devised a way to recover some of the pictures I thought we may have lost from the beautiful Doi-Alekna event I will share them now... As for our very own nuptials, well those pictures and stories are still being formed as we speak...

While we loved the San Francisco apartment from the minute we stepped foot inside, it was time to step into new shoes for the next leg of our journey, and so with a heavy heart we said goodbye to 839 Broderick...

Again with the help of our close friends and family-do you see a trend here?! there was much work to be done, boxes to pack, transport, stack, etc.

At the end of it all, Krista is settling into a cute little house in Santa Barbara, Jason is already quite settled into a beautiful house in Los Angeles, and their stuff is spread everywhere from Oakland to Huntington Beach...

It will be a challenging time, but what does not kill us, makes us STRONGER and "Everything will be okay in the end, if it's not okay, it's not the end"

So my bachelorette weekend was big fun thanks to all of my FABULOUS friends & sister. We began with MAC makeovers, a little shopping, lunch at Cafe Bastille (a quaint little french bistro) and we were READY!

Little STAR PIZZA treated us to a fantastic meal, we made our way over to salsa a bit at Cafe Cocomo, then off to an old favorite... Blondies!

My mom is amazing she always finds just the right thing to say, she joins in when she has a million and one things of her own to do, she tells me that everything is going to be alright and I believe her. This last week she found a florist for me, went shopping for a veil and stood by while I had the most difficult alteration appointment of my life (I hope!) Then she got in a car and drove 14 hours with my sister to ensure her attendance at my BACHELORETTE party! with an infant! She is the best and I just wanted to share that with everyone. Thanks mom

VEGAS BABY VEGAS!

The operative word being BABY! No, I'm not talking about the usual reference to all the guys & dolls that come dressed to impress in glitter & swanky vegas outfits-you know the ones you can't get away with anywhere else =)

I'm talking about a real, live coming out right this minute whether you like it or not LITTLE BABY. My sister had another baby boy, making me & soon officially Jason an auntie & uncle X2! His name? Trent Jaymz Thomas!

Since the trip to Vegas was really to get Jason's feet wet (his 1st time EVER! to Sin City) we did manage to get in a little bit of good ol' fun....

The stage is set!

Our guests "calligraphy"their hearts out

We did it!! I can't believe it, but WE did! With the help of some friends of course, we rolled out 175+ invitations!

We had the amazing adhesive women, the "gauze" folder, not to be mistaken for the gauze father =) and the tie guy.

And what is an evening without a little competition? After a very heated "calligraphy" contest, Laura Carr-Adams came out the clear winner! Thanks for volunteering to address them all Laura! Oh, you didn't get that? THAT was the prize!

So Christmas will go a little differently this year...Karen & Parker will be in Burney with my Dad, my mom is coming to visit me in SF & oh yeah meet Jason's parents for the 1st time.

All this talk about the parents meeting, it's enough to get me feeling nervous...But as I overheard Jason telling a friend on the phone, "they're all nice people, it's going to be great!"

The hardest part of Christmas will actually be not seeing my favorite nephew in the whole wide world. The 2nd hardest will be not spending time with my sister. My sister is a superstar & it won't feel right waking up Christmas morning without the 2 of them!

Since we won't get to spend the holiday together my sister had a beautiful bouquet sent for Jason & I to enjoy. Of course it doesn't come close to having them here, but it IS gorgeous! So here on display are: the bouquet & that oh so cute nephew of mine....

Season's Greetings

With so many of our good friends showing up on our doorstep for our holiday shin dig, in the middle of the "worst storm of the season!" Jason & I felt VERY lucky.

Lucky to have such great friends, lucky to have a great place to host them & most of all lucky that we didn't have to be the ones out there braving the rain & wind! (j/k =)

People came for the eggnog, but stayed for the peppermint martinis! Thanks to everyone that was able to make it, we missed those that could not.

The polaroids were a hit, thank you VERY much for helping us decorate the tree this year & making it ALOT more interesting!

Next year we promise more beer & KAROAKE!

This feels surreal!

Did I mention I went for the very 1st time ever wedding dress shopping over the T-day holiday!? Boy what an adventure, 1st there's the UNDERGARMENTS! then the overgarments! Initially while it all felt quite strange (the attention, the beautiful gowns you've only seen in magazines..) I felt at ease after a very short time (of course this surprised no one) If it hadn't been for the girl right next door getting a big share of my customer service, I think the whole thing would have been splendid! Gotta tell you though, the whole experience felt like visiting a foreign land for the 1st time, you've READ about it, you've SEEN PICTURES, but it's NOTHING like the REAL thing... Luckily I had a supportive entourage of bridesmaids, maids of honor & the mother of the bride! We even threw a man in there for good measure (don't worry he DIDN'T stay long) While I can't show you any of the dresses I tried on that day (lest I choose one of them & cause myself bad luck) I can show a few of the attendees...

If only I had more time....

Since that seems to be my life motto anyways, I have a feeling this year is going to be a whole lot of that and then some. You know the thing that REALLY seems to slow me down...TECHNOLOGY. The very word sends chills down my spine. While Becky did J & I a great service by helping us start up our very own blog, I am DROWNING in technical terms trying to figure out how to change the odds & ends on my template...if anyone can offer any help PLEASE send the love!!! If only I had paid more attention in my computer classes....

So, while Jason is studying for boards this weekend, I am wrapping up loose ends on our engagement announcements.... This of course takes the place of something I REALLY need to do: which is study my case presentations for the academy oral exams in exactly 1 week!!!

Ok Krista NO MORE PROCRASTINATION!!

Can't wait for next Sunday!!!
